Edinson Roberto Cavani Gomez, born 14 February 1987 in Salto, Uruguay, is a Uruguayan footballer of Italian origin. He presently plays striker for Serie A club Napoli and is nicknamed "El Matador" for his powerful appearance.
In January 2007, Cavani was picked to participate in the Uruguay national football team Under-20 team to perform in the 2007 South American Youth Championship in Paraguay. Cavani completed the event as the top scorer with seven goals in nine games, which helped Uruguay to end in 3rd place, getting them a spot in the World Youth Championship
On February 6, 2008, Cavani played his first senior game for the Uruguay national team, and instantly scored a goal within his debut with the Celeste, a 2-2 tie with Colombia. On 10 July 2010, he scored against Germany in the 3rd place match in the 2010 FIFA World Cup making the game 1-1, but Germany proceeded to win 2-3.On July 27, 2010 he took part in a friendly match with Angola in Lisboa. He scored a late goal in the match in a 2-0 win for Uruguay. On October 8, 2010 he scored his first ever hat-trick in a friendly match against Indonesia.
